2021 Kaua‘i Steel Guitar Festival Postponed

August 21, 2020 • Addison ChingFestivals and Conventions

The 2021 Kaua‘i Steel Guitar Festival has been postponed until further notice. The festival was originally planned for February 26-27, 2021 at the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort in Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, and postponed due to travel and gathering uncertainties surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision to postpone the festival was made by HIMELE and follows a similar decision by the board of the non-profit Mohala Hou Foundation which collaborates with Keola Beamer to organize the annual Aloha Music Camp. It was announced earlier that the Mohala Hou "…has decided to officially postpone AMC 2021 until the pandemic situation has improved."

The two events have been held concurrently since 2016, with the festival providing an extension of the Hawaiian steel guitar experience to many of the camp's participants. Hawaiian steel guitar training is offered in the camp curriculum and the festival's open stage provides opportunities for many camp participants and others to improve their public confidence and performance skills on the Hawaiian steel guitar.

HIMELE will work closely with both the Mohala Hou Foundation and the hotel to coordinate the festival's rescheduling. The festival's revised date will be decided on only when COVID-19 assembly restrictions permit the resumption of festivals and music events and when it is deemed safe to do so without jeopardizing the health and safety of the festival's musicians, staff and guests.
