Windward Mall Steel Guitar Festival Canceled

The 2020 Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival at Windward Mall has been canceled. It joins the ranks of several other steel guitars that have already been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

HIMELE chairman Alan Akaka felt that it was best to cancel this year's festival due to the uncertainty surrounding the venue's availability. Also not known are directives that might still be in place preventing large public gatherings and concerts.

The cancelation is also being done to ensure the safety of festival musicians, staff, and guests during this time of uncertainty.

The Spring Concert of Ke Kula Mele School of Hawaiian Music, which usually precedes the festival, has also been canceled this year.
