In 1945 Leo Fender and Doc Kauffman founded the K&F Company producing lap steel guitars and amplifiers.
In 1946 Kauffman departed the business and the company, K&F, was renamed "Fender Electric Instrument Company."
This lap steel guitar is one of the first electric guitars made by Leo Fender on his own.
It has an asymmetrical control plate and fingerboard; Roman numeral fretboard markers; a lightning bolt on the peghead plate; an ash wood body; a box magnet pickup; and a non lacquer "wax like" finish. Before Leo made Telecasters and Strats, he made lap steels!
