The Story of Hawaii Museum has added a new Exhibit to its collection called "Kika Kila, the Hawaiian Steel Guitar". It is the only exhibit of its kind in the State of Hawaii.
The collection tells the story of the invention and early development of the steel guitar by Joseph Kekuku, a young Hawaiian from Laie, Oahu. The development of the instrument and its playing style is chronicled in displays of the Acoustic, the Electric, and the Modern era of the steel guitar. In addition, a portrait of Hawaii's virtuoso steel guitarist is presented, as well as artifacts and other memorabilia.
Finally, a collection of vintage Hawaiian Lap Steel guitars is displayed, including the famous Rickenbacher Frying Pan steel guitar.
Come and discover the amazing story of Kika Kila, the Hawaiian Steel Guitar. A musical gift to the world!
