The Royal Hawaiian Center will present Dr. John W. Troutman, author of "Kika Kila: How the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Changed the Sound of Modern Music" as a guest lecturer at the 7th Annual Waikiki Steel Guitar Festival. A book signing and reception featuring Dr. Troutman will follow the lecture.

Dr. Troutman's lecture will be presented as a cultural enhancement to this year's Waikiki Steel Guitar Festival. Dr. Troutman will present his talk at 4:00 P.M. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Helumoa Hale in the Royal Hawaiian Center. A book signing and reception will follow.

In his book, the historian and steel guitarist offers the instrument's definitive history, from its discovery by a young Hawaiian royalist named Joseph Kekuku to its revolutionary influence on American and world music. His book is based on hundreds of hours of research and interviews, many of which were conducted with Hawaii steel guitar masters including Alan Akaka, and other musicians and their decendents.
